Staff Backend Engineer (Core Product)

Join Kalepa as a Staff Backend Engineer, where you'll work on critical infrastructure and systems at the core of the company. You'll design services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops to improve data quality and decision-making. The ideal candidate has strong backend engineering experience, is proficient in Python, and is comfortable with relational databases.

• Design and implement services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops to enhance the intelligence layer of the system.
• Take full ownership of your work, driving projects to completion with minimal oversight, and ensuring the reliability of systems built around fragmented data.
• Communicate proactively with stakeholders, surfacing blockers, asking the right questions, and keeping them informed throughout the project lifecycle.

• Have strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving
• Know Python (our main stack), though we're open to strong candidates from other OO backgrounds
• Are comfortable with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• Embody hustle and grit, you're excellent at your craft and relentless in pursuing it
• Have experience with serverless technologies (Lambda, EC2), asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments
• Have 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Take full ownership of your work and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight
• Bonus: experience with LLMs/generative AI, distributed systems
• Thrive on experimentation: you're comfortable testing ideas, measuring results, and iterating quickly on problems no one has solved before
