Staff Backend Engineer (Submission Processing, Europe)

Join our team as a Staff Backend Engineer in Europe, where you'll tackle complex problems at the intersection of AI and backend engineering. You'll have major ownership of system design, architectural decisions, and technical direction. Your work will involve building and scaling LLM-based systems that process vast amounts of unstructured data and provide critical insights for the insurance industry. Ideal candidates have experience with relational databases, Python, AWS, and serverless technologies, and thrive on experimentation and problem-solving.

• Design and architect systems for processing and extracting information from large volumes of unstructured data.
• Build and scale LLM-based systems that process billions of data points daily, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Take ownership of projects, driving them to completion with minimal oversight, and making architectural decisions under ambiguity.
• Are comfortable with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• Know Python (our main stack), though we’re open to strong candidates from other OO backgrounds
• Are excited by problems others are struggling with
• Have worked with LLMs in production and understand what it takes to deploy them at scale
• Embody hustle and grit, you're excellent at your craft and relentless in pursuing it
• Communicate proactively, surfacing blockers, asking the right questions, keeping stakeholders in the loop
• Have experience with AWS and serverless technologies (Lambda, EC2), asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments
• Bonus: experience with document pipelines and processing large amounts of data
• Thrive on experimentation: you're comfortable testing ideas, measuring results, and iterating quickly on problems no one has solved before
• Have 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Have strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving
• Take full ownership of your work and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight
