About The Role

Join Aurora, a company dedicated to building a safer and more efficient transportation ecosystem. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of custom hardware modules in the Aurora Driver Kit, working cross-functionally with various teams to deliver robust electro-mechanical solutions. You will support the development of the next-generation Aurora Driver Module and sustain products currently in use. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical product design, experience in manufacturing methods, and a passion for autonomous vehicles and robotics.

  • Support the development of next-generation Aurora Driver Module, integrating in-house developed computer and various Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
  • Drive robust, manufacturable designs for compute hardware deployed in safety-critical environments, ensuring designs are suitable for mass production.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, manufacturing, and reliability teams to successfully deliver integrated hardware solutions.
  • You will be skilled in collaborating cross-functionally with electrical, manufacturing, and reliability teams to successfully deliver integrated hardware solutions
  • You have experience designing for a large range of manufacturing methods with proven experience in past projects on how to successfully launch products
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical product design, with a focus on electronics packaging and vehicle integration
  • You will have a proven track record of driving complex electro-mechanical assemblies from concept through mass production, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, and suitable for safety-critical environments
  • BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering and 4+yrs of industry experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in CAD design & 2D drawing creation using GD&T, Catia 3DX preferred
  • Ability to complete tolerance analysis for complicated assemblies and apply Worst Case and RSS when appropriate
  • Exposure to designing for harsh environments including Shock/Vibration and temperature cycling with long term durability
  • Prior experience creating mechanical parts that interface with electrical components (PCBAs, Sensors, etc.)
  • Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions
  • Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware systems
  • Exposure to component design for high volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, diecasting, and stamping
  • Willingness to travel within the US and/or internationally 3-4 times a year
  • Experience with automotive ECUs or high-performance compute systems and integration into vehicles
  • Experience with high power, high thermal density, and high speed electronics (for example, server / networking design, avionics design, etc) and deep understanding of their integration challenges
  • Experience designing mechanical control outlines (MCO) of PCB assemblies
  • Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, and/or automotive vehicle design
