Staff Software Engineer (Core Services)

About The Role
Join Aurora, a leading company in the autonomous vehicle industry. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing complex systems that drive the commercial side of our platform. You will work closely with various teams, including software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering, to build a new asset management solution and scale up our fleet of autonomous vehicles. This role requires a strong background in building large-scale, high-concurrent backend services, as well as excellent communication skills and a drive to own the product lifecycle end to end.
- Design and implement complex systems from the ground up, including a micro-backend architecture for monitoring and managing the Aurora Commercial Fleet.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Software, Hardware, and infrastructure engineering, to deliver high-quality products that meet customer needs.
- Contribute to the team culture around mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering excellence, while driving the product lifecycle end to end.
- Experience with building large scale, high concurrent, high throughput and safety critical backend services

- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience with web communication protocols, including REST, gRPC and GraphQL

- Motivation to own the product lifecycle end to end. You’re happy to engage with our product and design teams and our internal customers to understand their needs and find ways to meet them. You ensure that product development stays on course all the way through release and post-release support
- 7 or more years of experience in building backend services
- Experience with embedded autonomous vehicle development
- Experience with IoT, real time communication between devices and cloud
- Experience with application release strategies such as feature flagging, A/B testing and canary release
- Experience with observability and monitoring of safety critical systems
- Experience with fleet management solutions for Robots, Vehicles or Aerial Drones
- Experience with external customer facing software including production rollout with real customers
- Experience with safety and mission critical applications
