Engineering Manager (Continuous Deployment and Change Safety)

About The Role
Join Anthropic, a leading AI safety and research company, as an Engineering Manager for our Safe Change team. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers building our continuous-deployment, configuration, and feature-flagging platforms. You will set the technical direction for safe deployment across Anthropic's services, partner with various teams, and drive the roadmap for progressive rollouts and health-check automation. You will also create clarity for the team and stakeholders in a fast-moving environment and take an inclusive approach to hiring and career development.
- Lead and grow a team of engineers building Anthropic's continuous-deployment, configuration, and feature-flagging platforms, owning planning, execution, and delivery against key milestones.
- Set technical direction for the safe deployment of code, infrastructure, and configuration across Anthropic's services, and drive the roadmap for progressive rollouts, health-check automation, and expansion to new deployment surfaces.
- Define and track the metrics that measure deployment safety and speed, and hold the team accountable to them, while creating clarity for the team and stakeholders in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
- Experience building or operating backend, distributed, or infrastructure systems in production
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clarity across teams
- Experience managing and growing a team of software engineers
- Working knowledge of modern deployment and cloud-native tooling, such as CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code
- A hands-on software engineering background as an individual contributor prior to moving into management
- 5+ years of engineering management experience, including leading infrastructure, platform, or developer-experience teams
- Low ego, high empathy, and a habit of leading by example
- A track record of building a culture of belonging and of engineering excellence
- Experience treating configuration as a first-class, safely deployed artifact
- A background in observability, health checking, or incident response, and a track record of improving production reliability
- Experience with feature flagging or experimentation platforms
- Familiarity with progressive delivery techniques such as canary or blue-green deployments and automated rollback
- Experience owning continuous delivery, release engineering, or deployment-safety systems
- Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this
- Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices
