About The Role
Join Cubic's expanding SIM Engineering team as a SIM Engineer II. In this role, you will support the design, validation, and maintenance of electrical profiles for SIM and eSIM products, design and implement Java Card applets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. You will gain hands-on experience in the complete end-to-end process of SIM/eSIM ordering and provisioning, and work with emerging connectivity technologies.
- Support the design, validation, and maintenance of electrical profiles for SIM and eSIM products, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Design and implement Java Card applets for SIM/eSIM services, working to 3GPP, ETSI, and GSMA standards, and write and maintain technical documentation.
- Develop, test, and support SIM-based applications and tools supporting SIM applications and their integration within the SIM/eSIM ecosystem.
- 3–6 years’ experience working in a technology organisation, preferably telecoms technology, with up to 3 years’ experience in SIM/eSIM/OTA engineering R&D
- Experience with smart card test & trace tools (e.g., Comprion)
- Proactive and open-minded with analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work unsupervised and take responsibility for task completion
- Good knowledge of SIM/eSIM architecture and protocols (APDU, ISO 7816)
- Experience working with MNOs or handset OEMs and familiarity with mobile network elements (HSS, OTA platforms, test SIMs)
- Effective communication skills
- Fast learner with curiosity and quality focus
- Understanding of secure coding practices and cryptographic protocols
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development tools
- Experience/knowledge of Postman API, Java, C#, SQL, scripting knowledge
- Familiarity with 3GPP/ETSI standards relevant to SIMs (e.g., TS 31.102, TS 102.221)
- Experience with Remote SIM Provisioning technologies (GSMA SGP.02, GSMA SGP.22/SGP.32)
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., DataDog, Zabbix)
- Knowledge of SIM operating systems for secure elements (e.g., MULTOS, native SIM OS)
- Third level qualification in a technology discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, or similar
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira)
- Experience working in a Kanban model
- Demonstrable problem-solving ability and new perspectives on existing solutions
- Independent work ethic and willingness to contribute to process improvements
- Ability to guide and mentor less experienced colleagues and lead small project teams
