About The Role

Join Whop, a high-growth technology company, as a Senior Manager in U.S. Indirect Tax. In this role, you will lead sales and use tax strategy, compliance, audits, and tax operations. You will work closely with various teams, including Product, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence product design, automate tax processes, and establish best-in-class indirect tax practices.

  • Lead the development and implementation of sales and use tax strategies across product launches, business initiatives, compliance, audits, and tax operations.
  • Manage U.S. sales and use tax compliance across all applicable state and local jurisdictions, including nexus analyses, registrations, return filings, reconciliations, and compliance monitoring.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the company's products, services, and operations, ensuring tax positions remain aligned with evolving laws.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into actionable business guidance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical accuracy and practical business considerations
  • Experience implementing or managing tax technology and automation solutions
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with significant ownership and autonomy
  • Demonstrated experience managing multistate compliance programs, including nexus analysis, registrations, filings, audits, and controversy matters
  • 15+ years of progressive indirect tax experience in public accounting, industry, government, or a combination thereof, with deep expertise in U.S. sales and use tax
  • CPA, MST, JD, LL.M., or equivalent advanced tax credentials preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong technical knowledge of marketplace facilitator laws, digital product taxation, SaaS taxation, payment processing models, and platform-based business structures
  • Experience supporting indirect tax matters within a technology, fintech, marketplace, SaaS, or e-commerce environment is strongly preferred
