Site Reliability Engineer (Networking)
Protex AI · Ireland
About The Role
Join Protex, a company dedicated to proactive workplace safety through real-time computer vision applications. As a Site Reliability Engineer (Networking), you will be responsible for the security, provisioning, and maintenance of our edge devices. You will work closely with various teams and have a direct impact on customer security reviews and device deployment. This is a hands-on role with a wide range of responsibilities, including remote access, edge security, OS lifecycle management, and networking.
- Proficiency coding in Python - comfortable writing automation, tooling, and small services rather than only shell one-liners
- Strong Linux fundamentals - including package management, init systems, networking, kernel/driver troubleshooting, and OS upgrade paths
- Additional scripting and automation skills (Bash or similar) to make manual fleet operations go away
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Helpful and responsive - willing to jump on a field issue with urgency when an edge device or a customer is impacted
- Experience deploying and operating endpoint security and vulnerability scanning tools at scale
- Solid networking knowledge: TCP/IP, DNS, NAT/firewalls, outbound-only architectures, certificate handling, and how to explain all of the above to a customer's security team
- Bias to write things down so the next person doesn't have to ask
- Experience operating a fleet of Linux devices in the field (not just servers in a data centre) - remote management, patching, observability, recovery
- Hands-on experience with a mesh/VPN or zero-trust remote access solution
- 5+ years of professional experience in systems administration, infrastructure, security engineering, or a similar hands-on operations role
- Experience with a major public cloud provider, particularly the compute, identity, monitoring, and edge/IoT services
- A security mindset - secrets management, least privilege, threat modelling, and an instinct for what a customer security reviewer is going to ask
- Owns their work end-to-end: planning, delivery, documentation, and cooperation across teams
- Experience with AWS security services
- Experience with managed edge / IoT deployment platforms and remote component delivery
- Experience working with edge GPU hardware and GPU-accelerated inference pipelines
- Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance programs from the infrastructure side
- Experience responding to enterprise customer security reviews at Fortune 500 scale
- Experience with MDM or device fleet management tooling
