Staff Back End Engineer (Hazel AI)

In this role, you will focus on building innovative Generative AI products for Altruist's advisors. You will act as a leader in engineering best practices, analyze and solve complex problems, and build scalable AI-driven applications. • Act as a leader and steward of engineering best practices, helping to mentor other engineers and develop impactful solutions.
• Analyze and solve complex problems spanning multiple user personas and workflows, focusing on building and scaling services and user-facing web applications.
• Build customer-centric scalable and performant AI-driven applications and features, and develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ELT processes.
• Experience with Generative AI frameworks and tools (RAG, Langchain, Vector database and other emerging agentic frameworks)
• Education - Ideally looking for a B.A. / B.S. degree in relevant fields such as Computer Science or similar Engineering/Mathematics degrees

• Experience - 8+ years of software engineering experience building precise and scalable distributed systems with best engineering practices
• Familiarity with integrating third-party AI APIs and services using platforms like OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Anthropic
• Creative problem solving - Identifying the problem is simply not enough. You’re instinctually creative with your approach in finding solutions to roadblocks
• Ownership - The pride you put into every aspect of your work is unparalleled and undeniable
• Prior experience delivering impactful Gen-AI products in production
• Technical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and can easily get up to speed on modern tech stacks (we use Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with AI/ML use cases such as content generation, summarization or natural language processing(NLP)
• Assurance - Your confidence is brilliant, yet ego-less. You possess a strong knowledge base, the ability to discover the unknown, and are open to differing perspectives
• Superb communication - intentional dialogue is a superpower. You listen as well as you share your perspective with others
• Bonus Points - Prior experience steering AI model output using techniques such as prompt engineering, supervised finetuning, and reinforcement learning
