Founding Product Designer (Hazel AI)

Join Altruist, a fast-growing company in the financial technology sector. As a Founding Product Designer for Hazel AI, you will play a crucial role in shaping the end-to-end Admin AI experience. This individual-contributor role requires strong interaction design fundamentals, a systems-level mindset, and the ability to prototype and build in code. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Research, and have the autonomy to fix UI or UX issues in code and ship them.

• Own the Admin AI experience across core surfaces like note-taking, meetings, inbox, and tasks, and design how Hazel captures context, summarizes information, follows up, asks clarifying questions, and takes action on a user’s behalf.
• Invent new interaction patterns for AI-assisted work where traditional UI doesn’t fit, blending automation, suggestions, and human control to reduce cognitive load without hiding important context.
• Build functional prototypes using real front-end code—not just static mockups, and work closely with engineers to refine interaction details and ship features into production, owning features from concept through launch.
• 7+ years of experience in product design, with a focus on complex, multi-step workflows and end-to-end ownership from discovery through launch
• Strong interaction design fundamentals and a track record of shipping real products—not just concepts or prototypes
• Comfort designing in ambiguous problem spaces with evolving constraints and rapidly changing AI capabilities
• High craft bar and strong taste in interaction, UX writing, and visual hierarchy, with the portfolio to back it up
• A systems-level mindset for how features connect across notes, meetings, inbox, and tasks, and how those pieces should feel cohesive in one admin agent experience
• Ability to prototype and build in code (e.g., HTML/CSS/JavaScript/TypeScript, React, or similar), and comfort working directly in front-end codebases
• Clear communication and strong, low-ego collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Research
• Familiarity with design systems and front-end component libraries, ideally in React or similar ecosystems
• Experience designing or building AI-powered or agentic products, especially those that automate or assist with complex knowledge work
• Background in productivity tools, admin workflows, or advisor/knowledge work software
