Systems Administrator
AbCellera Biologics · Vancouver, Canada
About The Role
Join AbCellera, a leading biotechnology company, as a Systems Administrator. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting our hybrid IT infrastructure, including cloud and on-prem systems. You will work closely with engineering and scientific teams, troubleshoot issues, and automate routine operational tasks. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, stock options, paid vacation, and flexible work hours.
- Operating, maintaining, and supporting hybrid systems and infrastructure, including cloud (AWS) and on-prem environments.
- Troubleshooting issues across systems, networking, identity, and access; exercising judgment on unusual problems.
- Partnering with engineering and scientific teams to support integrations between corporate IT, lab instruments, and in-house platforms.
- We’re looking for someone who’s already done this kind of work - running real infrastructure in a production environment - and who’s hungry to keep learning as the environment modernizes around them
- You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical individuals, and bring solid documentation habits
- You're deeply curious about how systems work end-to-end, tools you haven't used yet, and the science your work supports
- You have experience in scientific or manufacturing environments, or working in regulated industries (GxP, SOC2, etc.); this is considered a bonus!
- You work with modern practices by default; infrastructure-as-code, automation, and observability are tools you reach for, not afterthoughts
- You have 5+ years of related experience operating production infrastructure, in addition to a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience in a technical field); candidates with 3+ years of related experience in addition to a Master’s degree will also be considered
- You're a hands-on technical generalist who's run cloud and on-prem environments in production, and you've developed instincts for what tends to break and why
- You bring strong judgment to unusual problems; you know when to adapt an existing approach, when to escalate, and when to push back on a bad one
