Director of Research (Frontier Benchmarks)

Join Snorkel, a leading AI company, as the Director of Research (Frontier Benchmarks). In this role, you will lead a team of researchers in designing datasets that define and advance the frontier of AI. You will collaborate with academic partners, work with researchers at frontier labs, and utilize internal tools for evaluation and error analysis. You will also define the process for data development, own the quality of benchmark design, mentor and grow a technical team, foster external collaborations, and stay at the forefront of AI research.

• Lead a team of researchers in designing datasets that define and advance the frontier of AI, collaborating with academic partners and frontier labs.
• Define the process for determining what data to build next by combining market signals from customers and your team's insights.
• Mentor and grow a technical team, setting a high standard for quality and velocity while staying hands-on in your work.
• Experience setting the roadmap and vision for teams and collaborating frequently with the executive team
• Ph.D. in machine learning, NLP, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry or research lab experience considered
• Previous experience building benchmarks and doing data-centric research
• Proven ability to operate cross-functionally and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments while managing competing priorities
• Experience and interest in being customer-facing and translating technical contributions to business impact
• 8+ years in applied AI, ML, or research roles, including experience leading or mentoring senior researchers
