About The Role
Join Justworks, a leading HR technology platform, as a Payroll Tax Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing accurate and compliant payroll tax filings across all local, state, and federal jurisdictions. You will ensure the integrity of the data that powers those filings, helping to reduce risk and deliver a seamless experience for our customers. Your work will involve executing and maintaining quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, processing reversals and terminations, managing tax ID updates and rate changes, and resolving payroll tax inquiries. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and actively participate in team meetings to support performance and continuous process improvement.
- Execute and maintain quarterly and annual payroll tax filings across all local, state, and federal jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Resolve payroll tax inquiries and issues submitted via internal tickets from cross-functional teams, and recommend and implement improvements to existing payroll tax processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement updates to payroll tax processes and procedures, and proactively identify and escalate any risks or blockers.
- Tech-savvy, including advanced Excel. Proficient in various software programs and systems, with strong data entry, validation, and troubleshooting skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven, with a strong sense of ownership
- Prior experience with PEOs is a plus
- Organized and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise in quarterly and year-end filing cycles for various taxes and state jurisdictions, including state and local, federal a plus
- Demonstrated ability to resolve payroll tax inquiries and issues efficiently, meeting SLAs
- APA Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus
- In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal payroll tax processes and compliance
- 2+ years of experience in payroll tax, accounting, or a related finance field
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Multi-state payroll experience (single large employer or multi-employer) is preferred
- Demonstrate knowledge of tax rules and regulations for taxes previously filed and experience managing multi-state tax accounts and familiarity with filing cycles
- You collaborate well with others, raise issues early, and are always looking for ways to improve how the work gets done
