About The Role
Join Ambience, a company dedicated to building AI systems that enhance clinical care. As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining the developer-productivity infrastructure, including dev environments, build/test workflows, CI, internal tooling, repo standards, verification systems, and safe tool access for agent-assisted development. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of both engineers and AI agents.
- Ownership of the developer-productivity substrate for Ambience, including dev environments, build/test workflows, CI, internal tooling, repo standards, verification systems, and safe tool access for agent-assisted development.
- Improvement of feedback loops in the build, test, and CI processes, reducing flaky tests, improving CI failure modes, and aligning local validation with CI.
- Development of reusable checks for high-risk workflows, including frontend flows, migrations, schema changes, integration paths, API contracts, and structured evidence that lets reviewers trust agent-generated code.
- Strong backend/platform fundamentals in TypeScript, Rust, Go, Python, or similar
- Daily user of Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent on real production codebases
- Clear opinions on where agents help, where they fail, and what infrastructure makes them reliable
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with Staff-level impact across teams
- Deep experience building developer productivity, platform, CI, test, or internal tooling systems that engineers adopted
- Sound security judgment — can translate risk into practical controls without freezing progress
