The Family Services Specialist III is an entry-level leadership position within the City of Winchester's Social Services Department, responsible for managing the most complex cases across Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Foster Care/Adoption programs. The role operates with a high degree of independence, stepping into a supervisory capacity in the absence of a manager while also mentoring junior staff and supervising social work interns. Day-to-day duties include conducting home visits and studies, delivering crisis intervention, developing service plans, providing court testimony, and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and community agencies. Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field (or a Bachelor's in any field with two or more years of relevant experience), with a preference for BSW/MSW holders who possess a Virginia Social Work license.
