Software Engineer (Test/Internal Tooling)

Join Parallel Systems, a company focused on revolutionizing rail transportation with autonomous technology. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain critical test software and infrastructure for our autonomous rail vehicles. You will work closely with various teams to ensure our vehicles meet all regulatory, technical, and safety requirements. This role requires strong software development skills, expertise in testing cloud-based software and physical hardware systems, and the ability to guide overall testing strategy.

• Design, develop, and maintain testing frameworks for on-vehicle software as well as cloud-based services.
• Maintain continuous integration (CI) pipeline, with an emphasis on reliability, speed, and cost effectiveness.
• Partner with hardware and software teams to develop useful internal software tooling.
• Professional experience, or a high interest, in working on software test infrastructure with the ability to reason about correctness, performance, and system design
• Working proficiency with Linux and the software test/build/deploy lifecycle
• 3+ years of software development skills and professional experience with both scripting (Python, JS, etc.) and systems (C++/Rust) programming languages
• Experience with both hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing and software-in-the-loop (SITL) simulations
• Demonstrated success in leading technical design, setting direction, and mentoring other engineers
• Knowledge of rail control systems (strong plus)
• Experience in safety-critical domains such as autonomous vehicles, industrial control, or aerospace
• 2+ years of experience building test software and/or internal tooling, with an emphasis on hard tech products in addition to conventional cloud software
• Experience with polyglot codebases
• Ability to work cross-functionally and balance technical depth with product impact
