About The Role

Join Scale, a leading AI development platform, as an Associate General Counsel specializing in product and privacy. In this role, you will lead legal initiatives for cutting-edge products, manage legal risks in product development, and partner closely with technical and non-technical teams. You will also be a subject matter expert on US and global privacy laws, build relationships with product leadership, and support the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements.

  • Identifying and managing legal risks in product development, including privacy, regulatory, licensing, intellectual property, and others.
  • Developing the product and privacy legal functions, with a focus on maturing, operationalizing, and scaling legal support in these areas.
  • Partnering closely with technical and non-technical teams, including Product, Engineering, Operations, and Security, to future-proof key strategic initiatives involving customer data, payments, and responsible AI.
  • Expertise in US and global privacy regulations
  • Deep interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning technology and applications
  • 8+ years of legal experience, with a focus on emerging technologies and privacy and data protection counseling
  • Familiarity and experience with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
  • A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to tackle projects large and small with a low-ego approach to collaborating across the organization
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Fluency in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for Product, Engineering, and Operations teams
  • JD and a member of a state bar in good standing
  • Ability to think strategically at a high-level and from deep in the details, in order to drive complex problem solving and develop creative, business-forward solutions
  • Ability to calibrate risk, distinguish business from legal risk, and communicate it clearly to business and technical audiences
  • Experience developing a privacy program
  • Familiarity with the legal and ethical implications of AI, and the technical aspects of AI systems, including large language models and machine learning
