About The Role
Join Crusoe's Developer Experience team as a Staff Software Engineer. In this mission-critical role, you will empower every Crusoe engineer to deliver positive change to customers quickly, safely, and efficiently. You will shape our technical direction, communicate a strategic vision, and foster a culture of engineering excellence. Your responsibilities will include engineering standardization, toolchain architecture, toil elimination, library and environment creation, ecosystem integration, lifecycle innovation, and establishing a culture of quality. This is a full-time position for a visionary builder who wants to influence the long-term technical objectives of a company aligning the future of computing with the future of the climate.
- Empower every Crusoe engineer to deliver positive change to customers quickly, safely, and efficiently by unlocking the potential of the coding ecosystem.
- Define and build standard practices for how services are operated and observed throughout their entire lifecycle, establishing an opinionated, flexible, and cost-effective toolchain.
- Identify and automate away the friction and repetitive tasks that slow down the development process, keeping Crusoe engineers in a state of high productivity.
- Advanced Build Systems: Hands-on experience working with modern build systems such as Bazel, Buck, or comparable high-performance tools
- Language & Version Control Mastery: Expertise in modern programming languages (specifically Golang) and advanced proficiency in Git-based workflows (GitLab/GitHub)
- DevOps & Reliability Background: Proven experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Release Engineering, or a similar productivity-focused discipline
- Modern Tooling Proficiency: Fluent knowledge of industry-standard build tooling, containerization, and open-source development frameworks
- Testing Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep understanding of automated testing infrastructure and how to integrate it into a seamless CI/CD pipeline
- Cloud-Native Expertise: Professional experience managing or developing within Kubernetes clusters and a deep understanding of container orchestration
- Technical Decision-Making: Expert ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and understand how infrastructure decisions impact the daily productivity of the end-user (the developer)
- Mandatory Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related analytical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Linux Internals: Hands-on experience with Linux image construction, package building, and kernel-level optimizations
- Workflow Empathy: A demonstrated passion for building empathetic developer and operator workflows that prioritize human productivity
- Community Engagement: Active involvement in the open-source community or a track record of staying current with recent industry advancements in developer productivity
- Automation Mindset: A background in solving complex, multi-layered technical problems and then successfully automating the resulting solutions
- Strategic Vision: Experience informing long-term company objectives through technical insight and developer-centric advocacy
