Staff Engineer (Java)

Join Magnite's Ad Server Engineering team as a Staff Engineer. In this role, you will focus on building, scaling, and modernizing our high-performance ad server. You will work on various aspects of ad serving, leveraging cutting-edge AWS infrastructure and frameworks. Your responsibilities will include developing scalable solutions, collaborating with product teams, leading the modernization of legacy systems, and mentoring engineers.

• Proficiency in Java (modern frameworks such as Spring Boot are a plus)
• Hands-on experience with caching (Memcached, Redis, etc) and databases (Aerospike, MySQL, Postgres, etc)
• Experienced in designing and optimizing distributed systems for high throughput, low latency, and high availability and reliability
• Strong expertise in multithreaded programming and non-blocking frameworks like Vert.x
• Proven experience in designing and delivering new features and modules aligned with product requirements and timelines
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions with scalability and reliability in mind
• Strong knowledge of logging and distributed tracing tools (e.g. OpenTelemetry, etc)
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, and AWS-native solutions like CloudWatch
• Familiarity with developer productivity tools such as SonarQube, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code solutions
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineering teams
• Strong collaboration skills to work with product, engineering managers, and stakeholders
• 6+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on distributed systems, feature development, and system modernization
• Knowledge of Real-Time Bidding (RTB), SSPs, DSPs, and ad delivery systems is a strong plus
• Hands-on experience with ECS, Kubernetes (EKS), Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), and advanced observability tools
• Familiarity with the challenges and solutions in the Ad Tech ecosystem, such as latency optimization and reporting pipelines
• Experience with Spring Boot, SonarQube, Terraform, or Kubernetes
• Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure (ECS, EKS, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3)
• Understanding of container orchestration using Kubernetes or EKS, ECS, etc
