About The Role

Join Form Energy, a company focused on delivering qualified battery anode and cathode designs for utility-scale multi-day energy storage systems. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will own the design of components and assemblies from concept to production, with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and assembly. You will work cross-functionally with teams on requirements definition and verification plans, and troubleshoot design problems as they arise. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in mechanical engineering and experience in mass manufacturing.

  • Lead the design of a full electrode assembly or complex cell sub-assembly integral to the battery cell electrodes and electrode stack assembly.
  • Develop functional requirements and DFMEAs in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering, Electrode Engineering, and Systems Engineering teams.
  • Drive verification testing of your design work and work with vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting
  • Familiarity with mechanical verification testing
  • Experience working with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus
  • Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially injection molded plastic and formed/stamped metal components
  • Experience with the design and verification of fluidic systems, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) experience
  • Experience with the design and verification of air or liquid seals is a plus
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 10+ years, or Master's with 8+ years industry experience in mechanical design
  • Experience as a design lead or program lead on a team of Mechanical Engineers
  • Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment
