About The Role

Join Modern Health as a Staff Software Engineer (Frontend Platform) and play a key role in shaping the technical foundation and direction of our frontend architecture across web and mobile. You'll lead the evolution of our design system, component libraries, build/CI tooling, accessibility, and internationalization. This is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on people's lives while empowering every engineer at Modern Health to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable software.

  • Set the technical vision and long-term architectural direction for the frontend platform across web (React) and mobile (React Native).
  • Design, build, and evolve shared foundations — design system, component libraries, state management patterns, routing, build tooling (Vite), and testing frameworks.
  • Drive developer experience improvements: CI/CD pipelines, linting, type safety, code generation, MR/PR workflows, and metrics that surface platform health.
  • Experience improving developer experience and CI/CD for frontend codebases (linting, type checks, automated testing, MR/PR workflows, metrics)
  • 8+ years of relevant software development experience, with a clear focus on frontend engineering
  • Passion for building something to improve the lives of others
  • Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend tooling (Vite, Webpack, or similar); experience with React Native strongly preferred
  • Proven track record designing and scaling frontend platforms, design systems, or shared component libraries used by multiple product teams
  • Experience driving frontend architecture decisions — state management, performance, bundling, rendering strategies, and testing
  • Experience leading and architecting large-scale projects as a technical thought leader
  • Strong working knowledge of GraphQL (schema design, client tooling) and the ability to contribute meaningfully to backend services in Python (Django/Flask) when needed
  • Strong grasp of web performance, accessibility (WCAG), and internationalization (including RTL is a plus)
  • Ability to work effectively with and mentor a distributed engineering team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams
  • Native mobile development (iOS/Android) beyond React Native
  • AI-assisted developer tooling (e.g., agentic coding tools, code generation, LLM-powered DX)
  • Real-time messaging and notification flows (including push notifications)
  • Building or contributing to a design system at scale (Figma Code Connect, tokens, theming)
  • Working with AWS or other cloud platforms
  • SQL, bash, or other scripting languages to facilitate debugging or developer experience contributions
  • Working at a high-growth startup, on SaaS software, or in Health Tech / HR Tech
