About The Role
Join Standard Bots as our first in-house General Counsel. You will be responsible for managing the full contract lifecycle, building playbooks and processes, and serving as the primary legal contact for the company. Your focus will be on commercial contracts, but you will also address issues related to privacy, product liability, employment, and corporate matters. You will negotiate directly with various counterparties, support international expansion, handle employment matters, and assist with strategic transactions. This role requires 6-10 years of experience with a focus on commercial contracts and technology transactions, as well as a J.D. and admission to practice in New York.

- Government contracting experience (DFARS flowdowns, CMMC, NIST SP 800-171)
- Employment law or employment litigation management experience
- International experience — entity formation, cross-border agreements, or expansion into new markets
- Data privacy expertise (DPA negotiation, GDPR/state privacy laws)
- Experience building a legal function from scratch at a high-growth startup
- Comfort as a department of one: strong judgment on risk, pragmatism to keep deals moving, and a business-first mindset
- Proven ability to negotiate directly with sophisticated counterparties, including large enterprise legal teams
- Experience with hardware, industrial technology, robotics, or manufacturing companies — you understand physical products, supply chains, and product liability
- Reliable availability to work on-site in Manhattan or Glen Cove three days per week
- 6–10 years of experience with a substantial focus on commercial contracts and technology transactions, ideally combining law firm training and in-house experience
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain legal risk plainly to non-lawyers
- J.D. and admission to practice in New York (with experience addressing legal matters in other states as well)
- Experience supporting a company through an IPO or preparing for public-company obligations (SEC reporting, corporate governance, SOX compliance) Comment end
