Backend Software Engineer (Simulation)

As a Backend Software Engineer on the Simulator Team, you will design and develop C++ software systems for realistic world generation and its integration into Waymo applications. You will work closely with simulation, onboard, system engineers, and data science to enable critical Waymo milestones. • Design and develop C++ software systems and infrastructure for the realistic world generation platform and its integration in downstream applications.
• Work closely with simulation, onboard, system engineers, and data science on features to enable critical Waymo milestones.
• Monitor and improve the performance, scalability, testing, and reliability of the platform, and work with other engineers to design the long-term architecture of the system.
• BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
• 5+ years of solid coding and design skills
• Strong professional experience developing modern C++ production software
• Ability to solve open-ended technical challenges
• 5+ years of experience with backend technologies, workflows, databases, and production monitoring
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Working experience with ML and Generative AI models
• Experience with the release of software in a highly distributed heterogeneous execution environment
• Some experience developing metrics
• Some experience with large-scale data processing using frameworks like Google Data Flow or Apache Beam
• Experience with developing user-facing APIs and interfaces between different components
