Senior Systems Engineer (Rider Journeys)

Join Waymo's Systems Engineering team as a Senior Systems Engineer, where you'll blend software and hardware systems to create groundbreaking new features for rider journeys. You'll work with cross-functional teams to develop requirements and system architecture, collaborate closely with software engineers, and partner with the test engineering team to develop rigorous testing. • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or related field
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or other technical field
• An ability to read C++ to understand feature implementation and debug issues more effectively and an ability to write code for querying data sets (SQL) and creating dashboards
• Ability to think about the rider and an understanding of what might pose a safety risk for a given feature
• Aptitude to apply existing technical depth to new areas and learn quickly
• A systems engineering mindset and a proactive, data-driven approach to fixing problems
• Experience in safety critical aspects of the operation of fleets or delivery of production products at scale
• Experience working on features or products with a user experience focus
• Experience defining requirements such as precision and recall for machine learning perception models
• Experience performing or collaborating on safety analyses (e.g., Hazard and Risk Assessment, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, System-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF), etc.)
