Software Engineer (Driving Behaviors)

Join Waymo's Systems Engineering team as a Software Engineer focused on Driving Behaviors. In this hybrid role, you will develop metrics and models to enhance the performance, safety, and scalability of our self-driving system. You will evaluate new models, find new ways to gather data, and communicate the benefits and limitations of new models to partner teams. • Developing metrics and models to evaluate and enhance the performance, safety, and scalability of the self-driving system.
• Evaluating new models or methods to assess their performance and applicability to problems, and finding new ways to gather the required data.
• Communicating benefits and limitations of new models and metrics to partner teams, and integrating and deploying metrics and models on fleet-wide data.
• Experience testing such systems at all levels from unit tests to comprehensive end-to-end test campaigns
• Experience training new applications on existing ML architectures and improving existing applications
• Proficiency in C++ and Python
• Ability to learn and utilize new frameworks quickly, employing AI tools or otherwise
• Solid understanding of physics, geometry, and dynamics
• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other complex hardware/software systems
• 8+ years industry experience
• Proficiency in SQL
• Experience building and testing autonomous systems
• Experience using LLMs and VLMs in production environments
