Staff Software Engineer (Developer Productivity Async)

Join Gusto as a Staff Software Engineer on the Developer Productivity - Async team. In this role, you will enhance developer productivity by improving the tools and systems used by product engineers, focusing on asynchronous processing. You will maintain and improve the infrastructure that supports background jobs and asynchronous communication between applications. The Developer Productivity team is dedicated to elevating the way engineers work at Gusto, and you will play a key role in achieving this goal.

• Identifying and solving inefficiencies in the tooling, APIs, and feedback mechanisms available to product engineers to improve developer productivity.
• Designing, pitching, planning, measuring, and implementing solutions iteratively, utilizing AI tools to perform large scale code migrations.
• Collaborating closely with product engineering colleagues to anticipate and address upcoming changes, and developing and maintaining services, abstractions, and architecture to support product engineering.
• Successful applicants typically have 10+ years of software development experience
• Comfortable with architectural thinking and delivering solutions through code
• Deep experience with Ruby and Rails, including developer tooling for large engineering teams
• Proven track record of improving developer productivity through tooling, infrastructure enhancements, and the strategic use of AI
• Experience with asynchronous processing using Sidekiq and/or Kafka
• Systems thinker with a strong ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to work with colleagues as both customers and partners
