About The Role

Job Description Job Title: Head of Finance Job Purpose: Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the finance and accounts department at AFEX. This role involves guiding financial decisions, setting budget objectives, maintaining financial records, and providing valuable financial reports to support strategic business decisions Duties & Responsibilities Operational Management: • Manage and control the day-to-day operations of the finance and accounts department. • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. • Ensure all AFX departments are adhering to the budget allocated (OPEX & CAPEX) Financial Planning and Analysis: • Set up financial budget objectives, analyses variances, and initiate corrective actions. • Provide periodic status on the financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data. Reporting and Analysis: • Provide financial reports to the CFO, adding value to the business through proper business intelligence. • Oversee company's accounting operations and conduct process re-engineering for streamlined departmental policies and procedures. Audit and Compliance: • Implement, monitor, and enhance internal controls. • Randomly audit workflows to ensure proper authorization of accounting transactions. • Coordinate year-end audits and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements Taxation and Compliance: • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in tax planning and reporting. • Liaise with tax authorities, assist in tax return preparation. • Diligently examine vendor invoices, verify VAT compliance through accurate tax calculations, maintain and update VAT registration details Risk Management and Advisory: • Collaborate with business unit managers to advise on matters concerning the company's risks, controls, and best practices. • Operate internal control and risk reporting systems for effective financial management. Performance Evaluation and Improvement: • Conduct operational and financial audits of company business units. • Report on special reviews, identify risks and opportunities, and develop recommendations for improvement. Vendor and Customer Relations: • Maintain vendor and customer relations. • Receive, review, and process petty cash claims. KPI’s Adherence to financial policies and procedures. Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. Successful implementation of internal controls. Completion of year-end audits. Effectiveness in risk management and compliance Qualifications, Capabilities and Knowledge: Essential Qualifications, Capabilities and Knowledge Bachelor’s degree / Masters in Commerce, Finance, or Economics + MBA / Part qualification in CA or ACCA is preferred. Minimum 15+ years of experience in finance/banking/remittance or stock brokerage industry, with knowledge of local regulatory authorities. Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office Applications. Extensive training and experience in financial management, modeling, and advisory. Ability to work independently and establish harmonious working relationships. Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, negotiating, and problem-solving. Competency Requirements Ability to inspire and lead a finance team effectively. Strong people management capabilities. Formulates effective strategies for financial planning and decision-making. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to present financial reports and findings effectively.
