Director, Project Management

General Description: GSDS is managing a growing portfolio of more than 30 digitalization projects across multiple business areas, stakeholders, and delivery teams. To further strengthen portfolio governance, improve execution consistency, and ensure stronger alignment with strategic priorities, we are seeking an experienced PMO Director to lead the China project management team. This role will be responsible for establishing and driving project management standards, coordinating resources across the portfolio, improving visibility and control, and enabling effective delivery of key digitalization initiatives. The position will serve as a critical bridge between business stakeholders, project teams, technology teams, and senior leadership. Essential Functions of the Job: Define and implement consistent project management standards, templates, tools and processes across the digitalization portfolio. Drive adoption of best practices in project planning, execution, tracking, risk management, and stakeholder communication. Support leadership in prioritizing projects based on business impact, resource availability, urgency and strategic fit. Support effective allocation of PM resources based on project priority, complexity and business needs. Oversee project progress across the portfolio, including scope, schedule, resources, risks, issues, dependencies and key deliverables. Identify portfolio-level risks, resource constraints and facilitate timely escalation and resolution. Improve visibility into project status, delivery health and business impact through standardized reporting and dashboards. Serve as a key interface between project teams, business stakeholders, GSDS and R&D leadership, and other cross-functional partners. Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead, coach and develop the China project management team. Build PM capabilities across the team through training, mentoring, and best-practice sharing. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and business ownership. Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business administration, or a related field is required. Master’s degree (e.g. MBA or equivalent) is strongly preferred. Computer Skills: Proficient in project and portfolio management tools such as Smartsheet, Jiram and Microsoft Office tools for planning, tracking and reporting. Strong capability in data analysis and reporting using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI. Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirement definition, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance. Familiarity with modern development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum and DevOps, and ability to integrate them into technology-driven projects. Understanding of digital technology concepts, such as data platforms, automation tools, cloud-based systems, AI and analytics solutions. Experience working closely with engineering, product and architecture teams to manage delivery of digital and technology-driven products. Other Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in project management, program management, portfolio management, PMO leadership, or related roles. Proven experience leading complex digitalization, transformation, technology or business process improvement initiatives. Experience in a multinational or multicultural organization. Fluent spoken and written English is a must. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with strong understanding of clinical trial processes, including study design, site activation, patient recruitment, data collection, monitoring and regulatory submission workflows. Understanding of global regulatory and compliance requirements, including FDA, EMA, NMPA, PMDA, ICH-GCP, as well as data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR, China PIPL). Familiarity with validation requirements for computerized systems in regulated environments (e.g. CSV, 21 CFR Part 11 compliance). Formal training or certification in project / program management is a plus, such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster, or equivalent. T rav el: Willingness to travel domestically within China and occasionally international as required to support portfolio governance, stakeholder alignment and project execution.
