General Description: The Senior Director, Global Research Technology Solutions is the principal Global R&D Technology Solutions (GRDTS) function-facing leader for the BeOne Global Research functions including Biology, Chemistry , Biologics, Cell Therapy etc. , and helps to define business objectives, engineer technical solutions, and build and maintain a portfolio of Research solutions, while applying principles of innovation and efficiency. As a member of the GRDTS Leadership Team, the Senior Director is an active contributor to developing and executing BeOne ’s R&D technology strategy, defining necessary technology investments, and driving transparency in prioritization and planning. The Senior Director and their team are responsible for ensuring the strategy is fully aligned with business needs, positioning G RDTS services to deliver and realize compelling business value. The Senior Director closely manages the landscape of data, technology, applications and solutions used by Research and their functional portfolio of projects. They collaborate with other GRDTS capabi lity areas like Systems Engineering , GSDS & BeOne teams and functions to identify risks, interdependencies, and opportunities to inform financial responsibility, robust planning, and reliable execution, and partners with G lobal T echnology S olutions (GTS), Shared Services & Centers of Excellence ( CoEs ) to ensure adherence to BeOne ’s technology architecture, security & compliance, and system and project life cycle governance. A successful candidate is a dynamic leader and business relationship manager who brings deep digital & techn ology , data science , analytics, AI, scientific compute platforms, and integration tools and platforms. Strong experience in cloud/SaaS environments, ability to manage multiple projects across different functions in a global, geographically diverse environment, and building and sustaining teams in times of ambiguity are all critical success factors for this role. An ideal candidate will adapt communication cadences and problem-solving skills to accommodate customers, partners, and team members , exercise diplomacy and effective influence to reach consensus, and build strong stakeholder relationships . Essential Functions of the job: Data , Digital & Technology Business Partner ship to the Research Function Strategic Alignment & Roadmap Development: Serve as the primary G RDTS strategic partner to Research function to understand their scientific strategy, priorities, and unmet data/technology needs. Define and own the multi-year Data, Digital & Technology Roadmap for Research, ensuring it directly enables key scientific milestones, accelerates discovery, and aligns with overall R&D strategy. Team Leadership & Talent Development: L ead, mentor, and manage a high-performing GRDTS team dedicated to the Research function. Foster a culture of innovation , accountability and drive professional development for t e am members . Scientific Requirements & Solution Delivery: Oversee & t ranslate complex scientific challenges into clear, documented, and prioritized data, digital & technology requirements and use cases . Oversee the end-to-end delivery of technology solutions specific to Research, including Laboratory Information Management Systems ( LIMS ), Electronic Lab Notebooks ( ELN ), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS) & Mass Spectrometry s oftware , specialized data visualization platforms, and computational biology environments etc. Data, Technology & AI/ML Infrastructure & Platform Development & Management : A ct as the primary business-facing liaison for the Research function to identify & assess gaps & needs from stakeholders , translating them into clear requirements for Systems Engineering to execute as the primary technology and digital solution provider . System Engineering is responsible for design ing , implement ing , manag ing & maint ain ing scalable Research data, technology, AI/ML platform environments as needed . . Work closely with the System Engineering capability area to e nsure the se platform s provide robust capabilities for data repository, management, analytics, ML/AI model usage , version control, lineage tracking, and production deployment of models into research systems. Ensure the FAIR data strategy and roadmap is implemented and maintained and is aligned to overall R&D data & AI strategy. Ensure Research data governance alignment with BeOne Data Governance and enforce data governance, quality, and metadata standards within the Research function to ensure data integrity and reliability for critical decision-making. Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage strategic technology vendors who provide cutting-edge scientific software and / or AI/ML capabilities , as needed. Operational Excellence, Compliance & Governance: Ensure all R esearch-related systems and data platforms adhere to relevant pharmaceutical industry regulations and internal GTS security policies. Liaise with computer system vendors, IT partners, audit, and compliance to coordinate system implementation and change activities Develop an organizational framework and operating model that support the current and future technology needs for Research that comprises requirements management, solutioning, build, implementation, and administration (run) of global Research platforms, master data, and system interfaces Ensure team is trained in and embeds CSV, compliance, and health authority requirements into operational activities. Manage the Research technology portfolio's budget, resource allocation, and project prioritization process to maximize return on investment. Collaboration & Partnership : Act as the voice of Research function within the broader GTS (Enterprise IT) organization, ensuring it’s needs are prioritized. Collaborate with other teams on standards and best practices. Engage with peers to define, sponsor, and execute continuous improvements. Supervisory Responsibilities: L ead, mentor, and manage a high-performing GRDTS team dedicated to the Research function. Key Capabilities Strategic Roadmap Architecture: Translating long-term scientific objectives into a multi-year digital and technology capability roadmap. Biomedical & Technical Translation: Fluency in "scientific domain speak" to accurately translate complex scientific workflows into structural, technical software and data requirements. Stakeholder Orchestration & Influence: Navigating a matrixed environment to align disparate research functions, internal IT groups, and external vendors around unified platform standards. Solution Lifecycle Oversight: Managing the end-to-end delivery of digital solutions—from initial scoping and vendor selection through deployment and value realization. Technology Portfolio Management: Balancing disruptive horizontal technologies (e.g., Generative AI, RAG frameworks) with the stabilization of foundational research platforms (e.g., ELNs, LIMS, SDMS). Key Competencies Pharma Industry R&D Domain Literacy: A deep end-to-end understanding of the pharmaceutical research and development value chain . AI & Data Literacy: C onceptual grasp of modern data science paradigms, including machine learning lifecycle, foundational model s , and "AI-ready data" requirements. Agile Product Mindset: Treating digital platforms as evolving products rather than static IT projects, focusing on iterative delivery and user-centric design. Strategic Communication: The ability to simplify dense technical architectures for scientific leadership and articulate deep scientific constraints to engineering squads. Transformational & People Leadership: Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and inspire a diverse, high-performing team members . Skilled at fostering a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and cross-functional empathy between tech and science. Key Deliverables Research Data, Digital, & Technology Roadmap: A comprehensive, rolling 3-year strategic blueprint mapping technology solutions directly to scientific capability milestones. Business Capability Maps: Visual matrices mapping out current-state vs. future-state technical capabilities across Biology, Chemistry, and Biologics labs. Product Requirements Documents (PRDs): Detailed, prioritized functional and technical requirement backlogs that can be used by the Systems Engineering team to integrate or enhance platforms. Vendor Selection & Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Briefs: Formal evaluations, technical scores, and business cases for onboarding specialized vendor platforms or niche scientific AI tools. Platform Operating Models: Governance structures co-authored with the Systems Engineering capability & GTS to ensure research platforms remain stable, highly available, and optimized during production runs. Cross-Functional Data Governance Policies: Standard operating procedures defining data stewardship, compliance masking, and standardization practices to continuously generate AI-ready data. Team Performance Metrics & Skills Matrix: Clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) linked to scientific delivery outcomes, alongside an actively managed competency framework to close technical and domain gaps within the team. Succession Plans & Professional Growth Roadmaps: Structured career pathways and talent retention strategies that cultivate high-performing team members into future R&D IT leaders. Other Qualifications: Overall 15+ years of professional experience in data, digital & information technology with direct oversight and experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and/or Medical Device industries 7+ years of proven leadership experience at a senior level, directing a team of multi-skilled direct reports and associate-level team members. 7+ years combined experience in design, deployment, support, and/or use of Research function focused platforms , systems, software, & repositories . Strong experience in data & AI methods and technologies . Business relationship management acumen and demonstrable success as a change agent leading or contributing to significant transformational initiatives in organizations . Strong experience with software lifecycle methodologies, 21CFR Part 11 compliance, and GxP computer systems validation (CSV) .
