(Senior) Director, Discovery Biology (Oncology)

Role Overview As a key scientific leader within our Discovery Biology team, you will play a central role in advancing cutting-edge oncology drug discovery programs from target concept through preclinical development. You will lead target discovery, evaluation, and validation efforts while helping to build a differentiated and future-focused pipeline spanning small molecules, induced proximity approaches, PROTACs, novel immuno-oncology concepts, ADCs, mRNA/siRNA therapies, and other emerging modalities. In this highly visible role, you will partner across multidisciplinary teams to drive first-in-class therapeutic innovation, shape scientific strategy, and accelerate promising programs toward clinical development. Key Accountabilities Lead target and disease biology investigations, generate compelling new target proposals, and drive robust target evaluation and validation. Provide scientific and strategic leadership for preclinical project teams in a cross-functional, matrixed environment to advance clinical candidate nominations and IND-enabling studies. Champion scientific excellence and innovation by integrating emerging technologies, including AI-enabled approaches, to accelerate discovery and transform research productivity. Oversee day-to-day team operations while mentoring and developing scientists to build a high-performing, collaborative, and growth-oriented organization. Shape department-level talent strategies, including recruitment, retention, capability building, and long-term career development. Drive alignment across diverse stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives in a complex organizational environment. Communicate scientific insights with clarity and influence through high-quality written and verbal presentations to project teams, senior leadership, and key governance meetings. Foster external scientific visibility and impact through publications in leading journals and presentations at major internal and external conferences. Candidate Profile PhD and/or MD in cancer biology or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant experience in pharma or biotech drug discovery; deep expertise in solid tumors is strongly preferred. Strong record of independent scientific thinking, innovation, and creative problem-solving, demonstrated through original research and influential publications. Proven success in target identification and validation, scientific team leadership, and advancing programs to clinical candidate nomination and IND submission. Experience in translational science is a plus. Demonstrated ability to lead effectively across disciplines, partnering with Medicinal Chemistry, Bioengineering, DMPK, Toxicology, Translational Science, and Regulatory functions to drive high-quality decisions at key governance milestones. Established track record of scientific excellence reflected in high-impact publications and/or intellectual property generation.
