About The Role
General Description The Senior BI/Analytics Engineer in the GTS – Data & Analytics team is responsible for designing, developing, and operating enterprise-grade business intelligence and analytics solutions that enable trusted reporting, insights, and decision-making across the organization. This role partners closely with data engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into governed semantic models, standardized metrics, and high-quality BI products built primarily on Databricks using medallion architecture and consumed through Power BI and emerging AI/BI experiences. The position plays a critical role in ensuring consistency, usability, performance, security, and adoption of BI assets, with a strong focus on metric governance, self-service analytics, portfolio management of reports and dashboards, and the evolution of reporting toward AI/BI and conversational analytics capabilities. Essential Functions of the Job Design, develop, and maintain scalable BI and analytics solutions, including semantic models, dashboards, conversational analytics assets, and standardized reports for enterprise use cases. Translate business requirements into well-defined metrics, KPIs, dimensional models, and reusable semantic constructs that ensure consistent business definitions across reports, tools, and AI/BI interfaces. Build and manage curated BI consumption layers aligned to the Databricks medallion architecture, ensuring reliable and governed access to business-ready data from gold-layer assets. Develop and optimize dashboards and reports in Power BI and assess emerging alternatives such as Databricks AI/BI and Databricks Genie where they provide better user experience, agility, or value. Design semantic context, metadata, and business-friendly abstractions that improve discoverability, accuracy, and usability of analytics for both traditional reporting and conversational interfaces. Partner with data engineering teams to define data readiness requirements and ensure upstream pipelines, models, and business semantics meet BI and conversational analytics consumption standards. Ensure BI data quality by implementing validation checks, reconciliation controls, monitoring of critical metrics and reports, and structured issue resolution processes. Implement and enforce BI governance standards, including dataset certification, access control, metric approval workflows, auditability, and trusted semantic definitions. Manage and operate the portfolio of BI reports and dashboards, including usage monitoring, performance tuning, content rationalization, lifecycle management, retirement of low-value assets, and adoption optimization. Optimize BI performance through efficient data modeling, DAX and query optimization, aggregation strategies, caching techniques, and report design best practices. Support and operate production BI solutions, including incident triage, root cause analysis, release management, and continuous improvement of reliability and user experience. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members and external resources, including design reviews, semantic model reviews, and best practices for BI engineering and AI-assisted analytics. Supervisory Responsibilities This role does not typically have direct people management responsibilities but provides technical leadership and day-to-day guidance to junior BI developers and external or project-based resources as required. Computer Skills Expert-level proficiency in Power BI, with deep hands-on experience in enterprise BI solution design, development, deployment, and support Advanced Power BI capabilities, including complex DAX patterns, calculation groups, row-level security, advanced semantic modeling, and performance tuning Strong understanding of enterprise semantic layer design, including reusable metrics, hierarchies, metadata, naming standards, business definitions, and AI-ready semantic preparation Experience designing business-friendly semantic context and supporting structures for conversational analytics, natural language querying, and AI/BI experiences Proven experience implementing Power BI CI/CD pipelines, including version control, automated deployment, environment promotion, and release management using tools such as Git and Azure DevOps Strong understanding of enterprise BI architecture, including dataset certification, governance, lineage, access control design, and auditability Strong SQL skills for analytics engineering, data validation, and performance-aware query design Hands-on experience using Databricks as the core analytics platform, including Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and consumption of curated data aligned to medallion architecture Working knowledge of Databricks AI/BI capabilities, including dashboards and Databricks Genie, and the ability to evaluate fit-for-purpose usage alongside Power BI Copilot. Experience with BI portfolio operations, including usage monitoring, performance optimization, workspace and content organization, refresh strategy, and report lifecycle management Familiarity with Microsoft Azure data and security concepts relevant to BI solutions, including identity, access control, and integration with enterprise platforms Experience documenting BI solutions, semantic models, metric definitions, and usage guidance using standard documentation and diagramming tools Other Qualifications 5+ years of experience in BI development, analytics engineering, or related analytical roles Experience building enterprise BI solutions that balance standardized reporting, governed self-service analytics, and emerging conversational analytics use cases Experience leveraging AI-powered tools and assistants to improve development efficiency, content quality, discoverability, and user support Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across global teams Experience working in Pharma, BioTech, or large-scale corporate environments is a plus Proficiency in written and spoken English required, with the ability to communicate effectively in technical discussions and produce clear BI documentation. Experience evaluating new BI and AI/BI capabilities and translating them into pragmatic, business-oriented recommendations and implementations Travel Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, depending on business needs.
