Sr. System Specialist

General Description: The Sr. System Specialist – Zhangjiang Campus is responsible for end-to-end administration, stability, and continuous improvement of on-premises and hybrid server systems supporting Zhangjiang R&D and workplace/lab operations. This role owns day-to-day server operations and lifecycle activities (build, configuration, patching, monitoring, backup, capacity, security hardening, troubleshooting), ensures compliance with corporate IT/security standards and audit requirements, and partners with regional/global teams to deliver reliable infrastructure services. Strong hands-on expertise in Windows Server and Linux is required; experience managing HPC environments is a plus. Essential Functions of the job: 1) Server System Administration (Windows & Linux) • Build, configure, and administer Windows Server and Linux servers (physical/virtual), including OS deployment, patching, baseline hardening, and lifecycle management. • Manage core services as applicable (e.g., AD/DNS/DHCP, certificate services) and support server-side dependencies in partnership with application owners. • Maintain standards, runbooks, and configuration baselines; perform routine health checks and service continuity validation. 2) Change, Patch, and Vulnerability Management • Plan and execute regular OS patching cycles (Windows/Linux) and coordinate maintenance windows to minimize business impact. • Partner with Security/Compliance teams to remediate vulnerabilities, implement security tooling, and manage exceptions required by R&D constraints. • Ensure changes follow corporate change management processes with proper testing, rollback planning, and documentation. 3) Availability, Monitoring, and Incident/Problem Management • Operate and continuously improve monitoring/alerting for server infrastructure; ensure timely response, escalation, and clear stakeholder communication aligned with SLA expectations. • Conduct root-cause analysis and drive permanent fixes through problem management and automation where appropriate. • Participate in on-call / after-hours support rotations for critical incidents as required. 4) Backup/Recovery and Capacity Management • Maintain backup policies and job success; periodically validate restore procedures to meet RTO/RPO expectations. • Track capacity trends (CPU, memory, storage, network) and proactively plan expansions/upgrades; manage decommissioning and disposal per policy. 5) Virtualization/Compute Platform Support • Support virtualization platforms and compute infrastructure (e.g., VMware/Hyper-V), including provisioning, templates, resource allocation, and performance optimization. • Coordinate with data center and network teams for rack/stack, connectivity, and infrastructure dependencies. • Support Linux cluster operations as needed (e.g., node provisioning/imaging, OS baseline, patching coordination, shared storage/mount management, performance troubleshooting, and user/access control) in partnership with platform owners. • Support container platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), including cluster provisioning/basic administration, namespace & RBAC management, resource quotas, troubleshooting of node/pod issues, and coordination of upgrades/patching and security hardening. • Support internal/external audits by providing evidence and executing remediation actions; ensure local controls are operating effectively. 7) HPC (Preferred) • (Preferred) Support HPC/Linux clusters, including job scheduler operations, node imaging, user/access management, performance troubleshooting, and storage/network optimization in partnership with platform owners. Computer Skills: Windows Server administration (e.g., AD/DNS/DHCP, GPO, patching, troubleshooting). Linux administration (e.g., RHEL/CentOS/Rocky/Ubuntu), shell scripting, troubleshooting, and performance tuning, Linux Preferred. Virtualization and server management tools (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V). Linux cluster administration (e.g., node provisioning/imaging, shared storage mounts, user/access management, and performance troubleshooting). Container platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes): basic administration, namespace/RBAC, resource quotas, and troubleshooting of node/pod issues. Monitoring/logging, backup, and automation tools (tools may vary by environment). Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLAN, routing basics, DNS) and security principles (hardening, least privilege). Other Qualifications: 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise server/system administration (Windows & Linux, Linux Preferred). Experience operating in regulated environments with strong security/compliance awareness; able to produce clear documentation and audit evidence. Strong troubleshooting skills with a service mindset; able to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure during outages. Strong stakeholder communication skills; bilingual (English/Mandarin) preferred for global collaboration. (Plus) HPC administration experience in Linux clusters and job schedulers.
