About The Role

General Description: BeOne Medicines Global Research and Development Technology Solutions (GRDTS) team is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Digital & Technology Director to join our Research Technology team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the end-to-end life cycle process of understand gaps & needs, translating business needs into technical specifications, identifying, designing, implementing, administering, and maintaining a diverse range of data, digital & technology systems, including commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions, AI technologies, and some custom applications specifically tailored for the Chemistry function within Research. This role will be crucial in driving innovation and optimizing technology solutions that support our research objectives. The ideal candidate should bring experience working on and delivering technical projects with the ability to manage multiple projects across different functions for a global, geographically diverse environment. This role requires the ability to learn quickly and become familiar with several different technology areas. The candidate should also be experienced at supporting technical projects from business, technology, security, and process perspective. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of enterprise technical system investments. Essential Functions of the Job: Data, Digital & Technology Business Partnership to the Research Chemistry Function: Serve as the primary Digital, Technology & Systems partner to the Chemistry function within Research to understand their scientific strategy, priorities, and unmet digital, technology, data & systems needs. Based on Chemistry function scientific strategy, priorities, and unmet digital, technology, data & systems needs, create a multi-year interconnected Data, Digital, Technology & Systems roadmap for Chemistry function within Research, ensuring it aligns with overall R&D strategy. Translate complex scientific challenges into clear, documented, and prioritized data, digital & technology requirements and use cases. Provide hands-on solutioning & expertise related to data, digital, and technology to ensure solutions for the Chemistry function are not siloed and are connected to the overall Research Systems ecosystem. As the System Owner for Chemistry function Systems, lead the end-to-end life-cycle management of technology solutions specific to Chemistry function within Research, including Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN), Chemical & IP intelligence DBs, computational chemistry platforms, specialized data visualization platforms etc. Utilize AI/ML subject matter expertise to help define & identify high-value AI/ML use cases and embed AI/ML components into workflows & processes for efficiency gains. Identify, evaluate, and manage technology vendors who provide scientific software capabilities, as needed for the Chemistry & Cell Therapy functions within Research. Provide oversight and technology expertise for planned & ongoing projects for Chemistry. Collaboration within GRDTS: Collaborate with other GRDTS capabilities & teams, including other Research sub-function teams, Technology & Systems Engineering, GRDTS Operations to deliver optimized solutions for the Chemistry function that are not siloed and leverage the full potential of an interconnected ecosystem of platforms, systems, tools & technology. Enable & support the design, implementation, management & maintenance of scalable Research data, technology, AI/ML/HPC platform environments with expertise from the GRDTS Technology & Systems Engineering capability. Act as the voice of the Chemistry function across the GRDTS org. to ensure standards and patterns being developed across GRDTS capability areas are leveraged for Chemistry. Ensure all Chemistry-related systems and data platforms adhere to relevant pharmaceutical industry regulations and internal functional & Enterprise policies including security policies. Liaise with computer system vendors, IT partners, audit, and compliance to coordinate system implementation and change activities. Work within a framework and operating model that supports the current and future technology needs for Chemistry, that comprises requirements management, solutioning, build, implementation, and administration (run) of global Research platforms, master data, and system interfaces Operational Management: Provide day-to-day and scheduled application support; respond to application support issues from Chemistry function stakeholders. Responsible for following global IT Change Control processes for system enhancements and releases. Organize, coordinate and lead the testing and implementation of vendor developed solutions for the chemistry function. Identify and lead the resolution process for application incidents and requests in collaboration with GRDTS capability areas, Global Technology Solutions (GTS) functions or refer to vendors when necessary. Address issues related to application access, connectivity and performance in partnership with GTS & GTS Regional teams. Test any fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure issues have been adequately addressed. Liaise with technical engineers, IT security team and application support analysts to identify and resolve system application issues. Monitor, coordinate and lead the resolution process for high priority help desk ticket escalations. Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology Qualifications: Extensive experience in business and technical analysis, including developing requirements and translating them into data-driven and technical solutions Strong understanding of Dotmatics, Mosaic, TRON, OpenLab, Empower and other relevant Chemistry function systems Proven experience in developing and implementing AI solutions in research setting with a strong portfolio of successful projects Hands-on experience supporting and administering GxP computerized systems within an SDLC framework Strong expertise in data management practices, including data integrity, accuracy, and reliability Significant experience delivering technical projects and managing multiple initiatives across diverse functions in a global environment Ability to quickly learn and adapt to several technology areas, demonstrating a proactive approach to industry trends and innovations Supervisory Responsibilities: · Manage team members (employees and contingent workers) at global sites, including coaching and mentoring of staff with training and professional development. · Must be an effective leader and communicator and considered to be a developer of people comfortable working with a broad cross-section of people in direct and matrixed relationships. Key Capabilities Strategic Roadmap Architecture: Translating long-term scientific objectives into a multi-year digital and technology capability roadmap. Biomedical & Technical Translation: Fluency in "scientific domain speak" related to Chemistry to accurately translate complex scientific workflows into structural, technical software and data requirements. Stakeholder Orchestration & Influence: Navigating a matrixed environment to align disparate research functions, internal IT groups, and external vendors around unified platform standards. Solution Lifecycle Oversight: Managing the end-to-end delivery of digital & technology systems & solutions—from initial scoping and vendor selection through deployment and value realization. Key Competencies Pharma Industry R&D Domain Literacy: Understanding of the pharmaceutical research and development value chain, mainly for the Chemistry function. AI & Data Literacy: Conceptual grasp of modern data science paradigms, including machine learning lifecycle, foundational models, and "AI-ready data" requirements. Agile Product Mindset: Treating digital platforms as evolving products rather than static IT projects, focusing on iterative delivery and user-centric design. Strategic Communication: The ability to simplify dense technical architectures for scientific leadership and articulate deep scientific constraints to engineering squads. Key Deliverables Chemistry function Data, Digital, & Technology Roadmap: A comprehensive, rolling 3-year strategic blueprint mapping technology solutions directly to scientific capability milestones. Business Capability Maps: Visual matrices mapping out current-state vs. future-state technical capabilities across Chemistry, and relationships to other Research functions. Product Requirements Documents (PRDs): Detailed, prioritized functional and technical requirement backlogs that can be used by the Systems Engineering team to integrate or enhance platforms. Conceptual design & specification documents for existing Chemistry platforms & systems and its interactions with other systems within Research Vendor Selection & Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Briefs: Formal evaluations, technical scores, and business cases for onboarding specialized vendor platforms or niche scientific AI tools. Platform Operating Models: Governance structures co-authored with the Systems Engineering capability & GTS to ensure Chemistry platforms remain stable, highly available, and optimized during production runs. Delivery & launch of AOP projects based on approved requirements, specifications, development activities & implementation plans. Other Qualifications: Overall 10+ years of professional experience in data, digital & information technology with experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and/or Medical Device industries 5+ years of proven leadership experience directing a team of multi-skilled team members, including contingent workers. 5+ years combined experience in design, deployment, support, and/or use of Chemistry function focused platforms, systems, software, & repositories. Strong experience in data & AI methods and technologies. Business relationship management acumen and demonstrable success as a change agent leading or contributing to significant transformational initiatives in organizations. Strong experience with software lifecycle methodologies, 21CFR Part 11 compliance, and GxP computer systems validation (CSV). Accomplished in building and development of people and teams, comfortable working with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships Proficient in various project management disciplines (i.e., Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean etc.) Other Qualifications: Strong process improvement skills and orientation. Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Must have proven business and technology skills, with success providing customer-oriented technology solutions environment.
