About The Role
A network engineer plays a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of computer networks to ensure efficient and secure communication within an organization. Here are the main aspects of the job: Configure and install network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, to set up network infrastructure. Create a clear, documented process for network design and installation. Ensure hardware is properly chosen based on requirements, scalability, and future growth. Act as an escalation contact for all Network issues. Facilitate training sessions needed to empower JSOC and other IT departments. Attend calls as needed to implement a solution that covers ITSM. Regularly monitor the network’s performance, identify potential issues, troubleshoot connectivity problems, and ensure all network components are functioning optimally. Utilized network monitoring and event logs Implement a proactive approach by setting up alerts for performance metrics (e.g., bandwidth usage, latency, packet loss) and applying regular updates to firmware and software. Establish and enforce network security protocols, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and access control lists (ACLs), to safeguard the network against unauthorized access and cyber threats. Work with other IT teams (e.g., system administrators, security teams, developers) to integrate new technologies, ensure compatibility with existing systems, and enhance the network's capabilities. Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in network operations or administration. Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS). Hands-on experience with network hardware (Cisco, Extreme, Juniper, Fortinet). Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, VPNs, and security appliances. Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios). Understanding of network security principles.
