About The Role

Your future role on our team This opportunity is for a motivated geotechnical engineer who is team-oriented and has outstanding experience assessing, analyzing, designing and demonstrating leadership across the mining, oil sands, hydroelectric and heavy civil infrastructure sectors. Your primary role will be to engage with our clients to solve their most complex challenges. You’ll work closely with our senior, intermediate and junior geotechnical and civil engineers to deliver these projects, while also driving the business development and strategic growth of BBA's geotechnical services in Alberta. Alberta faces some of Canada’s most complex geotechnical challenges, from oil sands tailings dams and mine waste facilities to hydroelectric and decarbonization projects. To meet this demand, BBA has built a team of more than 100 specialists in Calgary and Edmonton and is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This role is ideal for a doer-seller who serves as a trusted advisor to clients, builds strong client relationships, wins new work and leads technical reviews while remaining hands-on to stamp drawings, defend designs, mentor teams and deliver high-quality projects. Half your time may be spent in front of clients and industry peers building BBA's reputation and pipeline while the other half may be spent leading the technical work that earns the next contract. If you thrive on both winning the work and doing the work, this is your seat. With us, you’ll get the opportunity to... Serve as a technical leader or reviewer for geotechnical projects across Alberta's mining, oil sands and energy sectors Provide early-stage technical guidance in support of our technical risk management and assessments Develop tools, systems, processes, blog articles, conference papers and training to build our service offerings Lead the production of geotechnical reports, specifications and drawings Prepare and manage site investigation plans Lead geotechnical investigations, geohazard evaluations, air-photo or LiDAR interpretations, slope stability evaluation, instrumentation and construction monitoring Mentor, coach and train less experienced professionals, as required Own and grow strategic client relationships across Alberta's energy, mining and infrastructure markets Lead business development pursuits, from identifying opportunities and shaping win strategies to writing proposals and closing new work Serve as BBA's doer-seller in the region: stay hands-on with technical delivery while personally opening doors, building client trust and converting relationships into repeat business Travel to project sites mainly in Alberta, but also across Canada and internationally, as required
