Head of Maintenance Control Centre (MCC)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) to lead the planning, coordination and optimisation of maintenance activities across our Padeswood plant. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maximising plant reliability, improving asset performance, reducing maintenance costs and supporting operational excellence. You will lead the Maintenance Control Centre team and work closely with operational, mechanical and electrical departments to deliver reliability-centred maintenance strategies, shutdown planning, predictive maintenance programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coordinate and manage all Maintenance Control Centre activities.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration within the MCC and across all departments.
- Set objectives, manage performance and conduct regular reviews for team members.
- Develop and maintain a skills matrix and annual training needs plan for the MCC team.
Maintenance Strategy & Reliability
- Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).
- Coordinate the development of annual maintenance and repair plans.
- Support the preparation and management of annual maintenance budgets.
- Lead planning and support for major shutdowns and plant overhauls.
- Continuously review and improve predictive and preventative maintenance programmes.
Asset Management & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee all maintenance activities undertaken through SAP-PM.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of maintenance data entered into SAP-PM.
- Identify recurring equipment issues ("bad actors") and develop improvement plans to eliminate them.
- Evaluate and implement new maintenance technologies and methodologies to improve reliability and reduce costs.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and corrective action planning.
- Support predictive maintenance analysis and decision-making.
Projects & Technical Support
- Provide maintenance planning support for capital investment projects.
- Conduct technical evaluations of strategic spare parts and major project proposals.
- Ensure equipment operates safely and within manufacturer design specifications.
- Provide technical leadership and maintenance expertise to support plant operations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, company policies and safety standards.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture within the MCC.
- Ensure all safety procedures, fire protection arrangements and statutory requirements are understood and implemented.
- Support the site's out-of-hours call-out rota, providing maintenance leadership and incident response when required.
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (minimum HND qualification).
- Significant maintenance engineering experience within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance planning and reliability methodologies.
- Experience using SAP-PM or similar Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Supervisory and managerial experience within a maintenance function.
- Experience leading shutdowns, capital projects and reliability improvement programmes.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or willingness to achieve through company-supported training).
- Knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis, predictive maintenance and asset management best practices.
