Are you passionate about supporting community wellbeing, building strong local partnerships, and making a meaningful difference in suicide prevention and recovery?

Mission Australia is seeking two Community Engagement Workers to join our The Way Back Support Service in Broken Hill. Working alongside local stakeholders, service providers, Aboriginal organisations, and community members, you will play a key role in strengthening community connections and supporting recovery-oriented outcomes for people impacted by suicidal distress.

The Way Back Support Service provides non-clinical support for people following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis. The service works collaboratively with individuals, families, health services, and community organisations to promote recovery, reduce social isolation, and strengthen community connections.

As a Community Engagement Worker, you will help drive local engagement initiatives, facilitate collaboration across stakeholders, and support the ongoing development of community-based responses that improve outcomes for participants and their families.

One of these positions is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified position under section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and all applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians. Being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification.

Your key responsibilities will be to

• Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders and partner organisations
• Support the development and implementation of local action plans and engagement strategies
• Facilitate meetings, forums, community discussions, and stakeholder engagement activities
• Undertake community mapping and development activities
• Support case conferencing and collaborative service delivery approaches
• Support Individual clients and support care coordination tasks and caseloads as required.
• Collect, analyse, and report on program outcomes and community insights
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and evidence-informed practice
• Promote recovery-oriented approaches and community wellbeing outcomes

Requirements for success

• Qualifications in Community Development, Community Services, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
• Experience building effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and community groups
• Knowledge of the Western NSW region and local community networks
• Strong communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills
• Experience preparing reports, submissions, or briefing materials
• Sound understanding of mental health, suicidality, recovery-oriented practice, and psychosocial rehabilitation
• Knowledge of community development principles and place-based approaches
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office and digital systems
• A current driver's licence
• Current First Aid and CPR
