Company: Barton Malow Job Location: Oak Park, MI Position: Project Engineer (Industrial Services) REQ ID: 12378 POSITION SUMMARY Barton Malow's Industrial Services team is seeking a Project Engineer to play a leading role in the execution of thermal power generation projects. This position is based out of our Oak Park, MI office, and candidates must be willing to travel for project assignments ranging from several weeks to several years. Travel assignments would require a full-time presence on the job site. The Project Engineer will play a key role in planning, developing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring onsite construction engineering activities while supporting successful project execution. This individual will serve as a liaison between clients, engineers, subcontractors, and project teams to facilitate effective communication, resolve issues, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with the highest level of quality. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide technical support for the resolution, documentation, and tracking of project issues. Manage project document control, including submittals, RFIs, and project correspondence. Coordinate and track submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and design clarifications. Support procurement activities, including distribution of bid documents and tracking subcontractor/vendor responses. Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules. Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes, ensuring action items are tracked to completion. Assist with planning and coordinating site logistics to support efficient project operations. Promote and enforce Barton Malow's safety culture by supporting compliance with all corporate safety policies and project-specific requirements. Review contractor quotations, assist with evaluating scope changes, and process change orders. Coordinate plan reviews and approvals with applicable authorities having jurisdiction, as required. Support field operations by assisting with work packaging, quality documentation, and project coordination. Collaborate closely with project management, field supervision, and self-perform teams to support successful project delivery. Perform additional project engineering responsibilities as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. 1–3+ years of relevant construction or engineering experience, or applicable construction internship experience. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a project team. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality. OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred. Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments lasting approximately 18–24 months. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience supporting thermal power generation or power plant construction projects Experience with millwright, rigging, and/or boilermaker scopes of work. Experience managing or supporting self-perform construction operations. Experience with heavy industrial construction and/or equipment installation. Experience developing or managing work packages. Experience with quality control processes and quality management systems (QMS).
