Company: Barton Malow Job Location: Oak Park, MI Position: Project Manager (Industrial Services) REQ ID: 12379 POSITION SUMMARY Barton Malow's Industrial Services team is seeking a Project Manager to play a key role in the execution of thermal power generation projects. This position is based out of our Oak Park, MI office, and candidates must be willing to travel for project assignments ranging from several weeks to several years. Travel assignments would require a full-time presence on the job site. The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and successful delivery of complex industrial construction projects. This individual will provide leadership to project teams, manage client and subcontractor relationships, oversee project financial performance, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Barton Malow's quality standards. This role requires a collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced field environment and has experience managing heavy industrial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead all phases of project execution, including planning, procurement, construction, commissioning support, and project closeout. Manage project scope, schedule, budget, cash flow, forecasting, and overall financial performance. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders. Lead project teams by providing direction, mentorship, and support to project engineers, superintendents, and field staff. Oversee project document control, contract administration, submittals, RFIs, change management, and project reporting. Review and negotiate subcontractor and vendor agreements, change orders, and cost proposals. Collaborate with field leadership to develop construction execution plans, site logistics, work packaging strategies, and project schedules. Monitor project performance and proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks and issues. Ensure compliance with Barton Malow's safety program while promoting a strong culture of safety across all project activities. Oversee quality planning and execution to ensure work is completed in accordance with project specifications and quality management requirements. Coordinate with clients, engineering teams, and regulatory agencies to facilitate timely approvals and successful project delivery. Support business development efforts, client relationship management, and future project opportunities as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive experience managing industrial or commercial construction projects, with demonstrated experience leading project teams. Experience managing project budgets, schedules, forecasting, contract administration, and change management. Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence. OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred. Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments lasting approximately 18–24 months. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience supporting thermal power generation or power plant construction projects. Experience managing millwright, rigging, and/or boilermaker scopes of work. Experience leading self-perform construction operations. Experience with heavy industrial construction and/or major equipment installation. Experience developing and managing work packaging strategies. Experience implementing and managing quality control processes and quality management systems (QMS). Experience managing EPC, industrial maintenance, or outage projects. Familiarity with Lean construction principles and collaborative project delivery methods.
