Job Summary

The

Music Teacher

is responsible for delivering a dynamic and engaging music program that fosters students’ musical abilities, creativity, and appreciation for global musical traditions. The role includes classroom teaching, co-curricular involvement, and contributions to school-wide performances and events. The teacher works with students across various age groups, promoting a love for music in a diverse, international school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Curriculum Delivery
  • Plan and deliver music lessons across relevant grade levels in accordance with the school’s curriculum (e.g., IB PYP/MYP/DP, Cambridge, or local framework).
  • Teach music theory, vocal techniques, instrumental instruction, and composition.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to engage students of different ages and abilities.
  1. Instrumental & Vocal Training
  • Instruct students in the use of instruments such as keyboard, guitar, percussion, recorder, etc.
  • Lead choir/vocal groups and support solo and group performance development.
  • Prepare students for music assessments or performances, as applicable.
  1. Events & Performances
  • Organize and lead musical performances, assemblies, recitals, and school productions.
  • Collaborate with staff on annual events such as cultural days, holiday concerts, or talent shows.
  • Support school-wide initiatives that integrate music with other disciplines.
  1. Classroom Management & Student Engagement
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Encourage creativity, collaboration, and confidence in all learners.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with varying musical backgrounds.
  1. Co-curricular Activities
  • Lead or support after-school music clubs, school band/orchestra, or music enrichment programs.
  • Mentor students participating in competitions or external music certifications (e.g., ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool).
  1. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessments.
  • Manage music room equipment, instruments, and resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for cross-disciplinary learning opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification/license is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience teaching music, preferably in an international or multicultural setting.
  • Proficient in at least one instrument and music theory.
  • Familiarity with music technology and digital composition tools.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with international curricula (IB, Cambridge, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Passionate about music education and student development.
  • Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative, collaborative, and organized in lesson planning and event execution.

Working Hours

Full-time, Monday to Saturday

May require additional hours for rehearsals, performances, or school events
