Job Summary

The

Student Counsellor

plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, social, and psychological well-being of students. The role involves providing individual and group counseling, guiding students through academic and personal challenges, and promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The counsellor also collaborates with staff and parents to ensure the holistic development of students.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Student Counseling & Support
  • Provide confidential, age-appropriate individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Support students dealing with academic stress, emotional difficulties, peer relationships, family concerns, identity issues, and other personal challenges.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies for students in need of additional support.
  1. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) & Wellbeing
  • Design and deliver SEL programs and workshops across grade levels.
  • Promote awareness of mental health and well-being through school-wide campaigns and events.
  • Foster resilience, self-esteem, and positive coping skills in students.
  1. Crisis Intervention & Safeguarding
  • Respond promptly to students in crisis and provide immediate support or referral to appropriate services.
  • Work closely with the school’s safeguarding team to ensure child protection protocols are followed.
  • Document counseling sessions and maintain confidential records in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  1. Collaboration with Staff & Parents
  • Provide consultation and training to teachers on student behavior, classroom strategies, and referral processes.
  • Work with families to support student development and address behavioral or emotional concerns.
  • Participate in student support team meetings and contribute to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) if needed.
  1. Academic & Career Guidance (if applicable)
  • Advise students on time management, study skills, and goal setting.
  • Support high school students with career exploration and emotional preparation for transitions to university or other post-secondary paths.
  • Collaborate with college counselors (if separate) to ensure student readiness and well-being.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, School Counseling, or a related field.
  • Certification or license in counseling (as required by local regulations).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an international or multicultural school.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.
  • Knowledge of international curricula (IB, Cambridge, etc.) and global student challenges.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, boundaries, and ethical standards.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, crisis management, and behavioral interventions.
  • Experience with digital counseling tools or SEL platforms is a plus.

Working Hours

  • Full-time, Monday to Saturday during school hours.
  • Occasional after-school hours or events may require attendance.
