Job Purpose

To design and lead a structured archery program that promotes skill development, discipline, safety, and sportsmanship. The Archery Coach will provide expert instruction in archery fundamentals, guide students toward personal improvement, and prepare them for intra- and inter-school competitions as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Instruction

  • Conduct regular training sessions covering archery fundamentals: stance, aiming, draw and release techniques, and follow-through.
  • Adapt coaching methods to suit various skill levels—from beginners to competitive archers.
  • Provide individualized feedback to help students improve performance and technique.

Safety & Range Management

  • Establish and enforce strict safety rules during all training and shooting activities.
  • Ensure proper setup, maintenance, and supervision of the archery range.
  • Teach students the correct use, handling, and care of archery equipment.

Program Development

  • Develop an age-appropriate curriculum aligned with physical education and/or co-curricular objectives.
  • Create training plans, progression trackers, and evaluation tools to monitor student development.
  • Introduce archery-related theory such as scoring, rules, and equipment knowledge.

Competition & Events

  • Identify students with potential for competition and prepare them for school-level, regional, or national events.
  • Organize internal competitions, demonstrations, and inter-house or inter-school matches.
  • Accompany and supervise students at off-campus events when required.

Equipment Management

  • Maintain all archery equipment, including bows, arrows, targets, arm guards, and safety gear.
  • Conduct routine checks and arrange for timely repairs or replacements.
  • Maintain inventory and report equipment needs to the sports department.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work collaboratively with other coaches, PE staff, and the Head of Sports to align with overall school sports goals.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, performance, and competition outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and school staff regarding student progress and participation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certified Archery Coach from a recognized federation (e.g., World Archery, SAI, FITA, or national archery bodies)
  • Prior experience in coaching school-age students (preferably in an international school setting)
  • Strong background in archery competition, training methodology, and safety protocols
  • Experience organizing and managing events or competitions (desirable)

Desirable (Optional)

  • First Aid and child safeguarding certifications
  • Experience in coaching for competitive archery (state, national, or international levels)
  • Ability to integrate archery into school-wide events, assemblies, or leadership programs
  • Familiarity with mental training techniques for performance under pressure
