The Opportunity
We are seeking an Assistant Project Controller to join our Canberra-based Water team and support the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure and advisory projects across Australia.
Working alongside Project Managers, Design Managers, Technical Leaders and client stakeholders, you will provide project controls, financial administration, schedule management and governance support across multiple projects. You will play a critical role in maintaining project performance information, supporting reporting requirements and ensuring project data remains accurate, timely and aligned with Beca's project delivery standards and those of our clients.
This role is well suited to a proactive and organised professional looking to build a long-term career in project controls and project management within the Australian water sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers in monitoring project budgets, forecasts, costs, schedules, and delivery performance across multiple water projects.
- Analyse project variances and performance data, providing insights to support informed decision-making and proactive risk management.
- Coordinate project reporting, documentation, and governance activities, ensuring compliance with internal processes and client requirements.
- Maintain project information systems and assist with project controls, mitigation actions, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster effective collaboration and communication across multidisciplinary teams, technical specialists, and client stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.
About You
You are detail-oriented, organised and thrive in a project-based environment. You enjoy working with project data, financial information and reporting systems while helping project teams achieve successful outcomes.
You Will Bring - Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in Project Controls, Project Coordination, PMO, or Project Administration roles within infrastructure, engineering, utilities, construction, or water project environments.
- Proven capability in project scheduling, resource coordination, milestone tracking, risk and issue management, governance processes, and project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, invoicing, and performance reporting.
- Sound understanding of project lifecycle management, project controls, governance frameworks , and project delivery methodologies, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and project management systems.
- Well developed organisational, analytical, and communication skills, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business , or a related discipline; PRINCE2, CAPM, PMP, or equivalent certifications are highly regarded.
