Scenic Fabricator
solidlight · Louisville, KY, United States
About The Role
Build the environments people remember.
At Solid Light, we design and fabricate immersive environments for museums, cultural institutions, and brands. We are looking for a Scenic Fabricator with a strong background in finish carpentry, millwork, and custom builds—someone who takes pride in craftsmanship and enjoys bringing creative concepts to life.
This is not a production-line role. You’ll work hands-on with a collaborative team to create one-of-a-kind installations that blend storytelling, design, and physical space.
What You’ll Do
- Fabricate and install custom scenic elements, casework, and millwork for exhibits and environments
- Work from shop drawings and design packages to bring concepts into reality
- Assemble precision components, including parts produced via CNC
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and fellow fabricators to ensure quality and intent
- Handle materials such as hardwoods, laminates, veneers, and specialty finishes
- Prepare, pack, and support installation of projects on-site
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace
- Adapt to a fast-paced, project-based environment with evolving priorities
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in finish carpentry, cabinetmaking, or millwork
- Experience in exhibits, museums, themed environments, retail displays, or custom fabrication is a strong plus
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and build details
- Strong working knowledge of woodworking tools and equipment (table saws, routers, nail guns, etc.)
- Familiarity with materials and finishes used in high-quality custom builds
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to craftsmanship and quality
- Team-oriented, reliable, and solutions-focused
What Sets This Role Apart
- You’ll work on unique, story-driven projects—no repetitive builds
- Projects range from museum exhibits to immersive branded environments
- Collaborative, design-forward culture with a focus on creative problem-solving
- Opportunities to see your work installed in real-world spaces
Additional Details
- Ability to lift and handle materials (up to ~75 lbs)
- Schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:00AM - 4:00PM (4x10 schedule)
- Willingness to work extended hours when needed to meet project deadlines
- Occasional travel for installations (domestic and international)
- Work environment includes active fabrication shops and installation sites
