About The Role
Objectives and Purpose of the Job
- To understudy and support the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the milling equipment that converts
- raw material into high quality wheat and maize products.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Understudy the Shift Miller as a Shift Miller Trainee to adequately learn to operate wheat and
maize milling operations
- Assist in ensuring daily productions meet all product quality and food safety standards.
- Assist in ensuring production targets are met. Assure that changeovers are made efficiently with
minimum loss of extraction and capacity.
- Assist with ensuring accuracy and timeliness of production data per shift.
- Assist with evaluating roll feed and sifter streams every shift, every day. Record break releases on
B1 & B2 rolls every shift, every day.
- Examine the operation of the cleaning house equipment for proper operation every shift, every
day. Confirm that there is no loss of millable grain (wheat or maize) lost to screenings.
- Obtain samples per the QA sampling SOP. Review QA analysis for at least the previous 24-hour
period to determine if any adjustments to the mill might be required to maintain specifications.
- Implements 5’s standards that maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Adhere to good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and HACCP quality systems.
- Ensure that safety, health, and environment rules and regulations are adhered to.
- Assist with ensuring focused process improvement projects (Kaizen Blitz) and designated
activities are implemented leading to continual improvement culture.
Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years’ experience in milling, food processing, or other related
manufacturing field
- Diploma in wheat &/or maize milling
Abilities; Skills; Experience; Aptitude and Judgement
- Must have ability to read milling flow diagrams, blueprints and other technical drawings
- Mathematical skills; must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing, and Kaizen continuous improvement tools
- Working knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems, ISO 22000, HACCP
- Ability to analyse problems, detect root causes and resolve all issues.

- Commitment to continual improvement goals
- Must be willing to take ownership of the milling operation and take pride in it
- Ability to write reports, complete checklists and other basic documentation / correspondence
- Ability to present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations
- Must be willing to work shifts
