Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Application Support Engineer to join our Applications Support team. The successful candidate will work closely with senior application support staff—particularly shadowing and learning to support critical 24/7 core banking systems operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their DevOps career who is eager to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience with enterprise-grade applications, deployments, monitoring, automation, and infrastructure operations. The role will involve night-shift coverage together with support for evening/night deployments, helping to reduce workload on the senior application support engineers.
Duties and responsibilities
- Shadow and learn from senior application support
engineers to understand daily operational processes.
- Monitor system health, alerts, and scheduled jobs; escalate issues as required.
- Learn and support CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling, configuration management, and scripting.
- Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, deployments, and system changes.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and process improvements.
- Work closely with the senior DevOps team and cross-functional teams (Apps DBA, Infrastructure, Development).
- Support system upgrades, patching, and routine maintenance activities.
- Assist with Core Banking system application deployments (including evening/night deployments).
- Support incident response, troubleshooting, and emergency interventions.
- Provide night-shift support for core banking systems (after a structured training period).
Required knowledge, skills and experience
Essential
- Basic understanding of Linux systems and shell scripting.
- Knowledge of DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, monitoring, automation, and version control (Git).
- Willingness and ability to work regular night shifts.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive mindset.
- Passion for learning new technologies and improving operational processes.
Desirable
- Application servers (Apache Tomcat/IBM WebSphere)
- Containers/OpenShift/Kubernetes
- Monitoring tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Database concepts (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Experience with deployment processes or supporting production systems
