Bill of Materials (BOM) Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise Solutioning & BOM Management
• Develop accurate and detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for enterprise infrastructure solutions.
• Translate solution architecture into hardware, software, licensing, and support requirements.
• Work closely with Solution Architects to ensure technical accuracy of proposed solutions.
• Validate BOM completeness before commercial submissions.
• Identify cost optimization opportunities while maintaining technical compliance.
• Infrastructure Costing & Pricing
• Prepare detailed infrastructure costing models.
• Understand OEM pricing structures, discounts, rebates, and commercial models.
• Perform hardware and software cost estimation.
• Evaluate alternative technologies based on cost and business requirements.
• Ensure pricing aligns with approved commercial guidelines.

RFP / RFI / RFQ Support

• Support end-to-end responses for RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs.
• Coordinate with OEM vendors and distributors to obtain quotations.
• Compare vendor pricing and recommend the most competitive commercial options.
• Ensure BOM compliance with customer technical requirements.
• Manage proposal timelines and vendor follow-ups.

Vendor Management

• Engage with infrastructure vendors for pricing, quotations, and product updates.
• Maintain relationships with OEMs and distributors.
• Track hardware lifecycle and End-of-Life (EOL) products.
• Monitor new technology releases and pricing trends.

Infrastructure Knowledge

Develop BOMs covering technologies such as

• Servers (Rack, Blade, Hyperconverged)
• Storage (SAN, NAS, Object Storage)
• Networking (LAN, WAN, SD-WAN)
• Firewalls
• Load Balancers
• Virtualization platforms
• Backup & Recovery
• Cloud Infrastructure
• Operating Systems
• Database Licensing
• Middleware
• Security Solutions
• Monitoring Platforms
• Data Centre Infrastructure
• Cabling and Rack Components
• Power, UPS and Environmental Components

Stakeholder Management

• Present infrastructure solution options to internal stakeholders.
• Explain costing assumptions and pricing models.
• Prepare executive-level PowerPoint presentations.
• Support bid review meetings.
• Work with Sales, Procurement, Finance, and Delivery teams.

Documentation

• Maintain BOM repository.
• Update pricing databases.
• Maintain standard infrastructure templates.
• Produce technical documentation for commercial submissions.
