About The Role

RWC is seeking a Health & Safety Assistant to support the Health & Safety Advisor in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment across our commercial construction projects throughout the Calgary area.

This junior position provides administrative and field support for the Health & Safety Program through site visits, safety documentation, orientations, inventory management, COR administration, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in construction safety while working closely with and learning from the Health & Safety Advisor and Health and Safety Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Health & Safety Advisor with the implementation and administration of the Company's Health & Safety Program.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations for office and field employees as required.
  • Assist with maintaining health and safety records, forms, training records, and documentation.
  • Support the Health & Safety Advisor with site inspections by documenting observations, tracking deficiencies, and following up on corrective actions.
  • Maintain, and update site safety boards and required safety postings.
  • Assist Foremen and Site Supervisors with project start-up safety documentation and required forms.
  • Support safety initiatives and maintain a visible safety presence.
  • Communicate safety information, reminders, and company initiatives to employees and subcontractors.
  • Attend site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JOH&S meetings and provide input.
  • Assist with collecting incident documentation, witness statements, and supporting information following workplace incidents.
  • Support the administration and maintenance of the Company's COR program, including audit preparation and document organization.
  • Support company-wide safety training initiatives and employee safety awareness programs.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation and engagement in safety activities.
  • Perform other administrative and field support duties as assigned by the Health & Safety Advisor and safety team.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of safety-related experience.
  • Experience in a construction environment is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Strong interest in developing a career in occupational health and safety.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and management.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Calgary area.
