We are now looking for Lead Piping Material Engineer to execute projects and support bids in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Reports To

The Lead Piping Material Engineer reports to Head of Discipline - Mechanical & Piping.

Job Overview

The Lead Piping Material Engineer is responsible for leading the design, engineering, review, and technical assurance of all static equipment activities for ADNOC and EPC projects. The role ensures that engineering deliverables comply with ADNOC standards, international codes, project specifications, safety requirements, and quality objectives throughout the project lifecycle, including Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, Commissioning, and Start-up phases.

The incumbent serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for piping materials and corrosion management, providing technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams and ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective material selection throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

  • Develop and maintain Piping Material Specifications (PMS), Piping Classes, and Material Requisitions.
  • Prepare and review material selection reports based on process conditions, corrosion studies, and operating requirements.
  • Define piping material requirements considering:
  • Design pressure and temperature
  • Corrosion and erosion resistance
  • Sour service requirements
  • H2S/CO2 environments
  • Offshore environmental conditions
  • Prepare Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for piping materials.
  • Review P&IDs, Line Lists, Process Data Sheets, and Equipment Data Sheets.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
  • ASME Section II & VIII
  • ASTM Material Standards
  • API Standards
  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156
  • Shell DEP
  • Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards (SAES)
  • ADNOC Specifications
  • KOC Standards

Material Selection & Corrosion Management

  • Perform material selection studies for:
  • Carbon Steel
  • Low Alloy Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Duplex Stainless Steel
  • Super Duplex
  • Nickel Alloys
  • CRA Materials
  • GRE/GRP Systems
  • Conduct corrosion assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Review corrosion loops and corrosion monitoring requirements.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and Design Reviews.
  • Evaluate corrosion allowances and internal/external coating systems.

Procurement Support

  • Prepare Material Requisitions (MR).
  • Review vendor offers and perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Resolve technical queries from suppliers and contractors.
  • Review Manufacturer Data Records (MDR), MTCs, and compliance documentation.
  • Support procurement in vendor qualification and selection.

Project Execution

  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Pipeline, Stress, Layout, and Procurement disciplines.
  • Support EPC, FEED, Detailed Engineering, and Brownfield Projects.
  • Review engineering deliverables from contractors and vendors.
  • Participate in project review meetings and technical workshops.
  • Ensure material standardization and optimization across projects.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide technical support during construction and site installation.
  • Review material substitutions and concession requests.
  • Resolve site technical queries and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Support hydrotesting, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in Mechanical Completion and System Handover.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
  • Support QA/QC activities related to piping materials.
  • Participate in audits, technical assessments, and lessons learned sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE and company quality management systems.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor junior and intermediate piping material engineers.
  • Lead discipline engineering activities and design reviews.
  • Develop engineering procedures, work instructions, and best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.

ADNOC / Shell / Aramco / KOC Specific Experience

ADNOC

  • ADNOC Onshore, Offshore, Gas Processing, LNG, and Refining projects.
  • Familiarity with ADNOC Engineering Standards and Specifications.
  • Experience in Brownfield modifications and live plant projects.

Shell

  • Application of Shell DEP standards.
  • Experience in Material Selection Diagrams (MSD).
  • Knowledge of Shell corrosion management philosophy.

Saudi Aramco

  • Expertise in:
  • SAES
  • SAMSS
  • SABP
  • SAIP
  • Experience with sour service material requirements.
  • Knowledge of Aramco approved material systems and vendor requirements.

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)

  • Familiarity with KOC Engineering Standards.
  • Experience in gathering centers, flowlines, and export systems.
  • Knowledge of high H2S and corrosive environments in Kuwait oil fields.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, or EPC projects.
  • Proven experience on ADNOC, Shell, Saudi Aramco, and KOC projects.
  • Experience in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, and Brownfield projects.
