Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $18.22

This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in participating in a global academic research project. The student will conduct primary research in the context of a global research project on local journalism. They will be responsible for researching and drafting a list of potential research participants, conducting interviews, and organizing interview data. Other tasks could include related secondary research and administrative tasks associated with the project. The student can work flexible hours with requirements as a remote position, with in-person on campus participation for planning and collaborative portions of the project.

How you'll contribute

Working with SAIT and research participants, the student will

  • Draft a list of potential interview participants for approval
  • Make contact with potential research participants to plan interviews
  • Conduct interviews with research participants
  • Maintain records of interviews and participant consent
  • Training and project orientation provided

Qualifications

  • Must be a current or future SAIT student that is actively registered in a program during employment. Proof of registration will be required prior to hiring
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members of the research team and community contacts
  • Demonstrated ability to ask questions and listen attentively with accuracy for detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency in operating a computer with various Microsoft Office applications and videoconferencing software such as Zoom
  • Preference given to candidates with related research experience
  • A post-secondary degree is an asset but not required
